Emile P. Lafourcade, Jr. peacefully entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 10, 2022 surrounded by his family just four days shy of his 80th birthday. He was the beloved husband of 56 years to Mary Ann Arnemann Lafourcade and the devoted father of Caroline Lafourcade Alberts (John) and Emile P. “Pepe” Lafourcade, III (Candice). Emile was Poppa to Amelia Devereaux Alberts. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emile P. Lafourcade, Sr. and Ruth Lolan Lafourcade and is survived by his brother, Alan T. Lafourcade.
Emile graduated from Jesuit High School in 1960 and Loyola University receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. He was a member of Upsilon Beta Lambda (UBL) Fraternity and wrote for the Maroon. After graduation, he worked briefly as a reporter for the Houma Courier, and then as a reporter for the Times-Picayune for almost twenty years garnering awards from the Associated Press. Emile spent the second half of his career engaged as a civil servant, first, as Administrative Aide to Jefferson Parish Councilman Edmond J. Muniz, and then as the Public Information Officer for the City of Kenner until his retirement. He was a real advocate for the residents of Councilman Muniz’s district and diligently worked with them to solve their problems.
Emile was a long-time parishioner at St. Ann Church in Metairie, serving his parish and his children’s school as an officer of the Men’s Club, Fair Chairman, designer, builder and conductor of the St. Ann Fair Railroad, and established the summer cabbage ball league’s sno-ball stand. He imparted to his children a strong sense of volunteerism and was truly a man for others.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 16, 2022, at St. Ann Church and Shrine, 3601 Transcontinental Dr. in Metairie, beginning at 10 a.m., followed by a Memorial Mass at noon. A private burial will follow.
