Emily Hayne Walker Mehaffie

Visitation will be at 10am on Saturday, July 18th, followed by funeral services at 12 noon at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. Burial will take place immediately after the funeral services. Arrangements are by Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home.

Emily Mehaffie was born in New Orleans to James Alexander Walker and Emily Hayne Walker on September 22nd 1938. She went to Metairie Park Country Day School in Metairie, graduating in 1956. Emily attended the University of Colorado. She moved to San Francisco, California in the early 1960’s, and later relocated to Hagerstown, Maryland in 1968. Emily moved back to New Orleans in 1985. She held ministerial credentials with Faith Christian Fellowship of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Emily is preceded in death by her father James Alexander Walker and her mother Emily Hayne Walker.

She is survived by her sons Walker Schurz and wife Haley of Lusaka, Zambia, and Hayne Schurz and wife Heather of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren Timothy Schurz, Jessica Schurz, Grace Schurz, Daniel Schurz and Katherine Schurz; and great-grandson Noah Schurz.

Emily will be remembered for her generosity, personal faith in Jesus Christ, ministry and hospitality to others, love for her family, and affection for her many Labrador Retrievers.

The family of Emily would like to extend their sincere thanks to Inspired Living and Care Associates Hospice of Kenner for their dedicated and loving care for Emily in the latter years of her life.
