He was precedeed in death by his parents, Emory Nott Cousin, Sr. and Grace Gerard Cousin; wife, MaryAnn Vigo Cousin; sister, Joan Cousin Young; and grandson, Philip Gilberti II.
He is survived by his children, Kathleen "Fifi" Cousin Zambon (Dennis), Michael John Cousin, Patricia Cousin Gilberti (Philip), Thomas Paul Cousin (Lisa) and David Joseph Cousin (Anne); 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Rip graduated from Aloysius High School in 1947, where he lettered in football and baseball. He served in the United States Navy for 2 years during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. On the love of his life's birthday, he married MaryAnn Rita Vigo and then worked his way through college, graduating from Loyola University in 1957. He was an avid fan of LSU football, and golfing, also enjoying sailing and woodworking. He was a devout Catholic and was a parishioner of St. Angela Merici Catholic Church in Metairie, Louisiana. He worked at George Engine Company in his early years for 25 years then worked at 5 Minute Oil Change for 25 years, retiring at the age of 85.
A special thanks to the staff at St. Francis Villa for their care and compassion. Also, a special thanks to Guardian Angel Hospice and especially his hospice nurse Donna Foto and to his wonderful caregivers Ariana Howell and Yoly Diamond for their gentle care and the love that they showed him.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral mass on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and interment will follow the funeral mass at Metairie Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to charities or organizations of choice.
