

Eng Bee is preceded in death by his parents, Tieng Hee and Cho Kim Ong; Brothers, Eng Meng, Michael Eng, and Eng Siong Ong; and sisters, Cheng Bee, Cheng Geok, and Cheng Poi Ong.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Leen Chin Ong; sister, Cheng Woon Ong; brothers-in-law, George (Beth), Jimmy (Annette), and Walter Chin; sister-in-law, Martha Hebert (Gerald “T-Boy”); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Eng Bee came to the United States to attend The University of Miami (Bachelor of Science), and then earned his PhD in Biochemistry from Tulane University.
He worked on many science projects at Tulane University, The Rockefeller University, and New York University and published many academic research papers. One summer he was a visiting Scientist at Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden. He also worked at Ochsner Hospital for a few years.
After an early retirement, he lived in both New York City and New Orleans. During the time he was in New Orleans, he attended the Chinese Presbyterian Church regularly and sang along with his brother Michael in the Church choir.
He was real tinkerer who knew how to fix everything. He also enjoyed sports such as badminton, tennis, and soccer. He even played intramural badminton at Tulane.
Along with his scientific accomplishments, Eng Bee will be remembered as a very family-oriented man. He was a good husband, and he greatly loved his nieces and nephews.
A private funeral service was held in his honor.
