Ernie was born February 2, 1953 and on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, Ernie passed this earth into the peaceful loving hands of his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his wife, sweetheart and devoted love Deanna Hess Harvey, where life was filled with holding hands, walking the beaches, and viewing sunsets in Gulf Shores, AL.
He was a loving father to his daughter Ann Marie Thomas and her husband Brian Thomas. He was Pops to his adored grandchildren, Alex, Jenna, Connor and Cara Thomas. So many happy memories will linger so lovingly that will always keep Pops alive within their hearts.
Ernie is also survived by his loving sister Patricia Harris. He was like a son to his in-laws, Jean and Marion Hess. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Marion Hess Jr. (Viviana Mongiat) and sister-in-law, Melissa Hess (Georges Daou). His loyal faithful dog Jack was his joy and comfort. He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Lyons Harvey, father, Ernest L. Harvey, Sr., and brother, John S. Harvey.
Ernie was a graduate of Jesuit High School where he started the school’s first radio club. He graduated from Loyola University with a degree in Communications and earned an electrical engineering degree from UNO. He was a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer.
Ernie was a member of Bacchus for over 30 years and he was the head of the prestigious Riding Lieutenants.
He was a CPBE member and certification chairman of the Society of Broadcasting Engineers Chapter 72 in New Orleans.
Ernie was chief engineer and constructed many TV and radio stations including the Telemundo 42, KGLA, WDSU, WVOG, WWL, WLAE, WLTS, WGSO, WPXL, WNOL, TV Azteca, and Lite 105. He worked at the LA Superdome and was a site manager at Load Star. He enjoyed flying and had attained his Pilot’s license.
He was loved and admired by so many people. Ernie stood very tall, walked with true faith, loved deeply as a Christian man, and was always eager to help anyone who needed him. We can all be thankful sharing his path.
Services for Ernie will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at St. Francis Xavier Church at 444 Metairie Rd, Metairie, LA 70005. There will be a visitation beginning at 10:00 AM followed by a 12:00 PM mass and a private interment at All Saints Mausoleum.
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, all guests must wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
