Born in Seville, Spain, Esperanza spent much of her formative life in Aguada de Pasajeros, Cuba, where her intellectual curiosity and love of language took root. She pursued advanced studies at the University of Havana and was among the pioneering women of her generation to earn a doctorate in Philosophy and Letters from the University of Havana.
Her career began in Havana in the 1950s and the Cuban Revolution took her to Puerto Rico and eventually the United States. She held positions with some of the era’s leading advertising agencies and media organizations, working on accounts throughout Latin America and the U.S. Hispanic market.
Esperanza was a devout Roman Catholic and spent many years devoted to las Teresianas and her high school alma mater, Colegio Teresiano of Havana.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Esperanza loved to travel and possessed a wonderful wit. She delighted all by creating poems, songs, and rhymes, often finding humor and irony in everyday life.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews-in-law, as well as grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and great-grand-nieces, who lovingly referred to her as Súper Tía.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial Mass at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 4337 Sal Lentini Pkwy. in Kenner, Louisiana, on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 10:00AM. The interment will follow the Mass at All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery.
