Florence Ann “Taci'' Hunter, born Florence Ann Capaci on April 30, 1931, in New Orleans, Louisiana, was the daughter of the late Frank Capaci and Jeanne Casebonne Capaci. She was the proud older sister of Andrea Capaci, lovingly known as Deacon Boo, who she used to joke was her first roommate (and he would joke, to her embarrassment, that he was the first man she slept with). Her love was genuine and infectious, and through the sharing of memories and traditions she passed on the richness of her life experiences and endless love.
In her early 20’s, Taci married the love of her life, George Manuel Hunter. If you knew Taci, you know how much she loved George and that she never stopped sharing their stories. She was just 14 when they met, and would always say that they grew up together and when times got hard, they pulled together. He was her best friend until the very end. Her love and legacy lives on through their son, Shep Hunter and daughter, Dru Hunter; her nine grandchildren (Shep’s), Danielle Hunter, Michael Hunter, Gabriel Hunter, Arielle Hunter, Israel Hunter, Rachel Hunter, Ezekiel Hunter, Nathanael Hunter, and Michelle Hunter; and her two great grandchildren, Mirabella Hunter (Gabriel’s) and Layla Haddad (Rachel’s).
She was the matriarch, the epicenter of fun, “TLC”, and gentle wisdom, who delighted in showing her love through sharing her favorite foods and signature dishes that combined her New Orleans, French, and Italian roots with a splash of Nicaraguan influence from her in-laws. She was a central figure in the lives of her grandchildren and had a special bond with each of them (and several of them cherish their time as her roommate during different seasons).
Taci passed away surrounded by love on December 21, 2022. Even at the end of her life, she continued to spread pure love and joy while experiencing the physical and mental challenges that dementia and over 91 years on this earth brings. Taci had a fierce, unconditional love for her family, which she showed with generous hugs and her signature “machine gun” kisses. She enriched the lives of everyone she touched, and especially valued her deep friendships with her cousins, her Dominican “high school” friends, with whom she stayed close, and her prayer/wine drinking group. Our Taci will forever be missed and will never, ever, be forgotten.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Monday, December 26, 2022 at 1:00PM.
