Floyd Edmund del Corral passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on July 25, 2017 in New Orleans at the age of 89. Floyd was born on November 5, 1927 in New Orleans to Charles and Florence Geisel del Corral. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Charles, Jr. Floyd is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gail Crawford del Corral; his children Kenneth del Corral, Wayne del Corral, Sr. (Susan), Nancy Brennan (Terrence), and Shannon del Corral (Maria); and his grandchildren Sean Brennan (Michelle), Wayne del Corral, Jr. (Tierney), Casey Brennan, and Quinn, Dylan, and Samantha del Corral. His children remember him as a loving, humorous, and patient father of unquestionable integrity, who encouraged them to pursue their goals and walk in faith.
He was a proud graduate of Jesuit High School Class of '44. Upon graduation, he worked for Pendleton Shipyards and later TNO/Southern Pacific Railroad. Following in his older brother’s footsteps, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and was stationed in Okinawa for 14 months, working as a storekeeper transporting and managing supplies and ammunitions. As beneficiaries of the GI Bill, Floyd and his brother were proud to be the first in their family to attend college. Floyd attended the Loyola College of Business where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1951. While working for Liberty Mutual Insurance, he met and later married Gail Marie Crawford in 1952. The two then moved to Shreveport for Floyd to open the city’s first Liberty Mutual personal sales department and lived there for seven years before moving back to New Orleans in 1959. After retiring from Liberty Mutual in 1992, he came to work with his wife at del Corral Model and Talent Agency until they both retired in 2011. He was an usher at St. Dominic Catholic Church for over 20 years. He also volunteered regularly with Habitat for Humanity. After Katrina, Floyd and Gail moved to Shreveport, but returned to New Orleans in 2015 and became parishioners of St. Pius X. Floyd enjoyed being close to his children and grandchildren in New Orleans. He loved sports of all kinds, but was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Saints, attending the first ever Saints game at old Tulane Stadium. Floyd was a member of the Ursuline Academy board of directors from 1993-97 and served as the chair of the board of directors from 1997-99. Previously, he was the chair of the Jesuit High School annual alumni campaign from 1988-89 and president of the Jesuit High School alumni association in 1992. He was also a member of the Loyola alumni board from 1985-87 and served on Loyola University’s Scholarship Gala Committee. He contributed annually to the Loyola Scholarship fund to give others the same opportunity that he was given. Floyd was named Loyola’s Alumnus of the Year in 1998 and is the 2003 recipient of Loyola’s highest alumni honor, the Adjuctor Hominum Award.
