Flroence Simno-Sprout

A celebration of the life of Florence Romolia Simno-Sprout will take place on her birthday, September 30, 2014, at Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church (formerly St. Raphael's Church, Elysian Fields and Prentiss). Florence died of a ruptured aortic dissection July 6, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Florence Fitzmorris Simno and George Rennyson Simno, Jr. Wife of the late Warren R. Sprout, Jr. She is survived by siblings Janet Courtenay (Frank), George R. Simno III (Claire), Irene Elizabeth Simno, and Beth Ann Simno. Her beloved uncle, James E. Fitzmorris, Jr, and aunt, Mrs. Norris V. Fitzmorris (Ann) also survive her. Affectionately known as "Auntie" to her nieces and nephews, Kristine Nielsen Scherer (William), Lauren Courtenay McFadden (Hunter), Stephanie Courtenay Novarese (Paul), Francis Aitkens Courtenay III (Shalyn), William Allen Courtenay (Alison), James Edward Courtenay (Brittany), George Rennyson Simno IV (Ruthie), and Jeffrey Farrell Simno. Florence was a graduate of St. Mary's Dominican High School. After graduation she entered the Dominican Convent. Thereafter, she attended St. Mary's Dominican College, Loyola University, and received Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees from Southern University New Orleans. She was a voracious reader, spoke "en francais" to her beloved pet, "Botsa-Rotsa-Totsa", enjoyed politics and worked as a poll commissioner for over 50 years. She was the family's information gatherer and disseminator. Her many phone calls, lengthy telephone messages, and quick wit will be missed. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend services for Florence on Tuesday, September 30, 2014. Visitation begins at 11:00 a.m. followed by Mass at 12:00 noon. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Mary's Dominican High School or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS.org) in memory of Florence will be appreciated.
