Francis X Hays Jr.

Francis X. “Sonny” Hays Jr., age 76, of New Orleans passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. He was born on November 17, 1946 to the late Francis X. Hays and Geraldine Dwyer Hays. Francis was a graduate of Redemptorist High School Class of 1964. He served in the United State Navy (Submarine Corps), and the Louisiana National Guard (Military Police). Francis worked as a machinist, mechanist and business owner. He had a passion for woodworking and Harley Davidson motorcycles. Francis loved to travel and he enjoyed dancing. He was a member of the American Legion Post 307.

Francis is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 42 years, Shirley Ann Valenza Hays.

Francis is survived by his son, Barry Hays (Mindy Kershenstine); his brother, Kenneth Hays (Ellen); his grandchildren, Nicholas Hays, Julian Hays; and his devoted life partner, Cathy Bouza.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff who cared for him at Touro Hospital and The Sanctuary at Passages Hospice.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 for 12PM at St. Philip Neri Church, 6500 Kawanee Avenue, Metairie, Louisiana 70003. Visitation will begin at 10AM. Interment will follow at Metairie Cemetery in All Saints Mausoleum.
