He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle B. Pecquet and Nimours F. Pecquet.
He is survived by his daughter, Angela P. Calamari (Kevin); fiancé, Linda Landsmann; grandchildren, Megan A. Calamari (Johnny) Cameron N. Calamari; great grandchildren, Dawson N. Calamari and Jaxon Flettrich; best friend and business partner, Louis “Louie” Mashburn (Joy); and the rest of his loving family.
Gary was a highly recognized veteran in the United States Air Force (4 years of service) and the United States Air Force Reserves (22 years of service). Following his military service, he went on to retire from Delta Airlines after employment for 20 years. Not only was he a mechanic with Delta Airlines, Louisiana Air National Guard, and Pan Air Corporation, he also was a mechanic instructor. In addition to being an aircraft mechanic, he also had his private pilot’s license. Gary had an extensive amount of qualifications in automotive, marine, hydraulics, aircraft and turbine mechanics. He also had a strong background in electronics. He received degrees from Delgado Community College, Louisiana State University and Delta Airline Schools. Gary and his best friend Louie co-owned South Louisiana Air Services located in Reserve, Louisiana. Most recently his highly celebrated career was recognized by the FAA as a master mechanic for his 52 years of service.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and a graveside service will follow mass at Hope Mausoleum, 4841 Canal St., New Orleans.
