Gaynell Lange Reuter passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 with her children by her side. She was born in New Orleans on August 13, 1940. She is a proud graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes grammar school, Class of 1954, and Dominican High School, Class of 1958. Gaynell was involved with many activities and reunions for Our Lady of Lourdes and Dominican High School. Gaynell attended Dominican College and later graduated from UNO with a degree in Library Science and then served as a librarian at Dominican College.
She worked for the Times-Picayune for many years until her retirement. Gaynell never met a stranger. The family would tease her about knowing someone wherever we went in or out of town. She was a member of the Johnny Bright Ladies Tennis Club long after she stopped playing tennis. She had a wide circle of friends from the neighborhood, her children's schools, work, and beyond. Gaynell was a loyal friend and would do anything to help others. Gaynell was an avid neighborhood walker. She walked almost daily after retirement at Lakeside Mall with friends. Gaynell was a sports fan who followed basketball, football, and tennis. She especially enjoyed watching basketball teams from Johnny Bright playground and Dominican High School, coached by her son Ryan. Gaynell and her husband Chris attended many Tulane sports events in and out of town.
Gaynell is survived by her children Christian Allen Reuter, Jr., Lori Reuter, and Ryan Reuter. She is survived by her brother Robert (Bobby) Lange and sister-in-law, Susie Babst Lange. She is also survived by her three beloved cousins, Gay Bennett (the late Gene), Terry Drolla (Joe), and Karen Underwood (Rodney) who were like sisters to her. She was preceded in death by her husband Christian Allen Reuter Sr. and parents Robert Henry (Bob) Lange and Adele Hayem Lange. We are grateful to the doctors, nurses, and staff at East Jefferson Hospital for their quality care. We are also thankful to the nurses, caregivers, and staff of Chateau de Notre Dame skilled nursing facility. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Mary's Dominican High School or to the Tulane University Green Wave Club.
