On August 28th 2023, George E. Acosta, devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 81 in his Metairie home. He was surrounded by his wife, his two daughters, and his younger sister.
George was born in Miraflores, Colombia. He was the son of the late Beatriz De Acosta and Pablo Acosta Camargo, both from Colombia. He immigrated to the United States as a young boy and resided with his mother and only sister, Maria Paulina Acosta, in Texas.
Shortly after arriving in Bryan, Texas, as a young man, George enrolled in the United States Air Force, where he served 4 years. He went on to meet and marry his beautiful bride, Argentina Rosa Torres, who was born in Managua, Nicaragua. They were married on December 29th, 1967. Soon after marriage, George was stationed in Lakenheath, England, where their first daughter, Kathleen Acosta DeCorte, was born.
Once they left England, his young family settled in Lakeview and would soon build their permanent home in Old Metairie. George attended Texas A&M and graduated from Loyola University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance in 1976. After graduation, he worked at Metairie Bank as a loan officer. He would soon have a dream to own his own business which included Dunkin Donuts on Jefferson Highway. He worked as a Superintendent for the New Orleans Archdiocese Cemeteries for over a decade. He ended his career as a Pest Control Technician employed by Orkin Pest Control, J&J Pest Control, and finally Kenny’s Pest Control service.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Beatriz De Acosta, and father, Pablo Acosta Camargo, and his mother-in-law, the late Margarita Torres.
He is survived by his wife, Argentina Rosa Acosta, his two daughters: Kathleen Acosta DeCorte (Michael), Jennifer Acosta Roddy (Trent), two granddaughters: Caitlyn Rose DeCorte, Madelyn Kate DeCorte, three grandsons: Patrick George Roddy, Shane Thomas Roddy, Samuel Isaac Roddy and his sister, Maria Paulina De Acosta.
During his time on Earth, George was an avid Saints Fan who never missed a game in the Dome. He enjoyed reading and visiting the public library. He could be found sitting in his recliner watching all sports games including the Saints, LSU and the Pelicans.
As a young man in Colombia, he played soccer. His family and friends referred to him as “restaurant foodie” who enjoyed dining out with his family for all occasions. He enjoyed traveling and planning family vacations with his “girls.”
George will be remembered as a devout Catholic who served his church ministry as an usher at St. Francis Xavier Church and St. Catherine of Siena Church. When he was not with his daughters or grandchildren, he spent many hours in prayer and at the adoration chapel where he made many new friends. George will be remembered by all family and friends as a generous, patient, and loyal friend to all.
The Acosta Family would like to give special thanks to the Ochsner Skilled Nursing Unit, the caring staff and nurses of Heart of Hospice, and most of all to the Sisters, Servants of Mary, who cared for him.
Family and Friends are invited to attend Visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA on Friday, September 1, 2023, from 11am until 1pm.
