George Frederick “Rick” Sins, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, at his home in St. Francisville, Louisiana. He was 85 years old. Born on April 11, 1941, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Rick lived a life defined by devotion—to his family, his friends, his work, and the countless people whose lives he touched through his kindness, generosity, and genuine interest in others.
Nothing mattered more to Rick than the people he loved, and his family always knew they were his highest priority. Rick is survived by his wife, Janet Garrett Sins, whom he married in August 1969. Over nearly 57 years of marriage, they built a life centered around the family they cherished. Rick was the proud father of Stacy Sins Ingram and her husband, John; George F. Sins, III and his wife, Amy; and Katherine Sins LeBlanc and her husband, Loren. He was a devoted grandfather to Christopher Ingram, Caroline Ingram, Madeline LeBlanc, and George Miller LeBlanc, and took great joy in watching each of them grow and pursue their passions. Rick is also survived by his brother Kurt Francis Sins and his wife Linda Sins. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Frederick Sins and Alma Claire Ramel Sins, and his sisters Daryl Sins Childress and Lisa Sins.
A graduate of Jesuit High School in New Orleans, Rick carried with him the Jesuit ideal of being a man for others—a belief that shaped the way he lived every day. He served in the Army National Guard from 1962 to 1968 as a soldier and medic, caring for wounded soldiers returning home.
Rick went on to build a successful career as a financial advisor, earning the trust of clients and colleagues alike. He took pride in helping others plan for their futures and was especially proud that the business he built would continue through his son, George.
While Rick enjoyed a successful professional life, those who knew him best understood that his true passion was people. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. His warmth, curiosity, and gift for storytelling allowed him to form friendships throughout every stage of his life.
Rick loved sports and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his children and grandchildren. His enthusiastic voice from the stands was unmistakable, and his family always knew he was there. He generously supported his children’s and grandchildren’s schools and athletic programs, helping provide opportunities for young athletes to pursue the sports they loved. Rick also had a special love for animals, particularly his beloved dog Dixie, who brought him companionship and joy in recent years.
Above all else, Rick loved life. He embraced each day with enthusiasm, found happiness in simple moments, and treasured time spent with family and friends. Those who knew him understand that he would not want to be remembered with sadness, but with gratitude, laughter, and celebration.
Rick’s greatest accomplishment was not the business he built or the success he achieved; it was the family he loved so deeply and the joy he brought to those fortunate enough to know him. He will be missed beyond measure and remembered with love and laughs always.
