George Kampitsis, age 94, passed away at his home in Metairie on Thursday, October 3, 2024. He is survived by his spouse, Eleni Kampitsis; daughter, Angeliki Kampitsis; granddaughter, Niki Bountovinas; sisters, Irene and Dina; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Spiros and Angeliki Kampitsis; and siblings, Gerasimos, Loula, and Amalia.
George was born on December 8, 1929 in Tzanata, Kefalonia, Greece. He met his beautiful wife in 1956 during a stop in New Orleans while working as a seaman. He moved to New Orleans in 1957 and married Eleni in 1958. George and Eleni operated several successful restaurants in New Orleans through the years. George's passions were cooking and gardening. He loved to share great meals with family and friends and spent countless hours caring for his vegetables, herbs, and fruits in the garden.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1200 Allen Toussaint Blvd. in New Orleans, on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at 11AM. A visitation will be held at the Cathedral beginning at 10AM. The interment will follow the service at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum. A makaria/reception will follow at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
