Gerald Aynaud Douglass

Gerald Aynaud Douglass passed away on September 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Gerald was born on July 25, 1947, in New Orleans, LA, and resided in Metairie for nearly forty years. He was extremely devoted to his family and to his Catholic faith.

He was the beloved husband of Jeannine Eckholdt Douglass and a loving member of a large, tight-knit family. Gerald was the son of the late Justin Denechaud Douglass and the late Marian Daniel Douglass. He was the grandson of the late George Douglass and the late Emma Denechaud Douglass, as well as the late Harry Holland Daniel and the late Mary Hartmann Daniel.

Gerald was preceded in death by his brothers, James Stuart Douglass and William Daniel “Billy” Douglass (surviving wife—Susan). He is survived by his brother, Justin Denechaud Douglass, Jr. (wife—Marilyn). He is also survived by his devoted wife, Jeannine; his beloved daughter, Kathryn; his loving mother-in-law, Virginia C. Eckholdt; and numerous nieces and nephews on the Douglass and Eckholdt sides whom he loved dearly. Gerald is additionally survived by his cherished sisters-in-law, Lisa Eckholdt Sammons and Elizabeth Eckholdt Adler (husband—Mickal); and brothers-in-law, Gregory Eckholdt, M.D. (wife—Rhonda) and Eric Eckholdt (wife—Jeanne).

Gerald was a “people” person, enjoying a good joke or story. He loved telling them too. His jovial nature fit in with his long career working as a tour guide/bus driver at different intervals for New Orleans Tours, Hotard Coaches, and Grayline Tours. He received awards for his safety record and his success as a tour guide both within the city and when giving plantation and swamp tours outside of the city. He loved to travel, read, go on road trips, and watch sports in person or on TV; he was especially a diehard fan of the Saints and the Tulane Green Wave football teams and loved rooting for them. Nothing, however, gave him greater happiness than being with his family or doting on his daughter, Kathryn, for whom he had immense pride.

Gerald’s family would also like to extend a special thank you to his caregivers, Yolanda and Brionda Ranton, for treating him with dignity and kindness in the last months of his life. The family would also like to thank the healthcare staff of Guardian Home Health Care, as well as the doctors and staff of both East Jefferson Hospital and University Medical Center, for offering Gerald the best possible care.

Family and friends are invited to an 11:00 A.M. funeral mass in Gerald’s honor, on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Our Lady of Divine Providence Catholic Church,1000 North Starrett Road, 8617 W. Metairie, LA, 70003. Visitation will begin at 9:30 A.M. at the church. Interment will take place at Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery.
