Gerald Rodney Varnado

Gerald “Razor” Varnado, age 73, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2014. Beloved husband of Joann Varnado. Father of Christian Blake Varnado, Gerald Gilbert Hebert, Anissa Sclamo, Mike Varnado and Gerald “Shaver” Varnado, Jr. Grandfather of Noah Michael Varnado and Jesse James Morton. Brother of Dewey “Red” Varnado (Rita), Genell “Nootsie” Johnson, Lillian “Sal” Ungaro, Shirley Higgins (Ben), Sharon “Shine” Phenald, Sarah Martin (Gene), Terri “Patty” Houk and the late Arnold “Butch” Varnado and John Lester Varnado. Sister of the heart Juanita “Nita” Seguin. Son of the late Hazel “Plum” Blake Varnado and Lester “Teat” Varnado. Razor was a New Orleans Police Officer for 33 years. The police department was a tradition in his family. His badge #1108 was held by father and son for 47 years. He was a lifelong bowler, mentor to many, a lover of people and never met a stranger. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery) on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 29, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Lewiston Cemetery.
