Fortified with the sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Gerardeen (Gerri) Marie MacLellan Cortello won her battle with Lymphoma and peacefully went home to the Lord on October 10, 2021. Gerri shared her faith and kind heart through her music as a cantor for a variety of churches throughout the Archdiocese of New Orleans as well with her wonderful clients and co-workers at Eye Care Associates in Metairie.

Gerri is a favorite aunt to 25 nieces and nephews and 40 great nieces and nephews and a friend to all.

Gerri's granddaughter, Macie Bell, said it best; "Mameemaw loved music and cooking but she loved her family the most - She was our best friend!"

Gerri was a beautiful, sweet lady. I knew her during the St. Clement of Rome days. We met her and David when we were preparing for marriage. They performed for our wedding and she sang at our 25th anniversary. She was fabulous - such a great singer. I never knew she was sick and am stunned at seeing she has passed away. I will miss her. She was so kind - truly a bright light!

Please accept my sincerest condolences on your great loss!

Eternal rest grant unto her o Lord. May she rest in eternal peace in the loving arms of God.

Sincerely with love,

Jacqueline Ghawaly

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you, children, family, and friends of Gerri,
I was with you in spirit Thursday. The realization that Gerri's sweet face and voice would not be present as I remember her from the 1980s at St. Clement of Rome added to my sadness over your loss. Such a kind, loving woman.

Dear Family, I’m so sad to hear of Gerri’s passing. We shared many activities with our kids at St. Clement. I also saw her annually at Eye Care. My deepest sympathy to all of you. You had a lovely lady for a Mom. May she enjoy her heavenly reward now. And God’s blessings to all of you. Sincerely, Roselyn Marchand

It was my privilege to attend the Mass for Gerri today. What a beautiful way to honor Gerri by recognizing how her music has lifted up so many in so many churches over the years. May the peace and joy that her music has brought to so many of us fill the lives of her children and grandchildren. You are all being remebered in prayer by our family. May she rest in peace.

I have very fond memories of Gerri's kind spirit and beautiful music. I knew Gerri when I was on faculty at St. Clement of Rome. Its been over 25 years since I last saw Gerri, but I still remember her gentle smile and love of music. I wish her family every peace of heart.

Please know of my prayers for the repose of Gerri's good soul and for the consolation of her family and friends. Thank God for the certain hope of Heaven where we'll be reunited with our loved ones with no more sorrows!

Gerri had a dear place in my life especially when I was a member of the St. Clement of Rome choir which was also a time when I was discerning entering the Religious Life. I'll never forget that she and other members of the choir attended my First Profession of Religious Vows in Nashville, Tennessee in 1996!

May Gerri rest in peace, pray for us, and sing in her beautiful way of God's "Amazing Grace" until we're able to join with her and all of the Saints and Angels.

Sincerely and in Christ,
Sr. Mary Ellen Westholz, O.P. "Dee Dee Westholz"
