

Gilbert V. Andry III, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 85, in his home surrounded by family and loved ones on June 16, 2024. He was born on November 20, 1938, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Gilbert is survived by his loving wife, Suzy Andry, who he met when he was 19 years old and has been married to her for more than 63 joyous years. He is also survived by their three children, Gilbert "Gibby" V. Andry IV (Alicia), Jonathan B. Andry (Caroline), and daughter, Brooke Andry, as well as his grandchildren Gilbert "Gilly" V., Sarah, Elena, Victoria, Sophie, Jonathan, Isaac, and Olivia, all of whom he cherished, celebrated, and loved deeply. He is also survived by his uncle as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Gilbert "Gil" V. Andry, Jr., and Ruby Helen Andry; his favorite brother, Jerald "Jerry" N. Andry, and his beloved sister Carole A. Psak.
Gilbert grew up in New Orleans in the Ninth Ward, graduating from Nicholls High School, Class of 1956, where he was student body President. He went on to receive a scholarship to and attended Tulane University, where he was a "big man" on campus, a celebrated student body leader and cheerleader.
During high school and throughout college and law school, Gilbert also proudly served in the Louisiana National Guard excelling to become a member of the Elite Special Forces, Airborne Division, attended and graduated from officer candidate school, rising to the rank of lieutenant. During that time he voluntarily jumped out of perfectly good airplanes.
After graduating from Tulane with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Gilbert attended and graduated from Tulane Law School with a Juris Doctorate, Class of 1963. After receiving his Juris Doctorate, Gilbert practiced law as a fierce litigator and trial attorney for more than 50 years at a firm he founded with his brother Jerry, Andry & Andry. He was sworn in as an Assistant District Attorney for the 25th Judicial District in November of 1969 and worked as an ADA for 30 years, during which time, among other things, he represented the Plaquemines Parish School Board while also handling all criminal writs and appeals. While an ADA, Gilbert also served as the President of the Assistant District Attorney’s Association.
Gilbert was a master wood craftsman and carver, creating many duck decoys, life-sized carousel animals, and furniture pieces. He was also an artist creating many paintings for family and friends.
Gilbert was a dedicated fisherman, fishing out of Hopedale and Port Eads for most of his life.
Gilbert shared his life with many friends who were also adventurers and project-oriented people like him.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation which will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., in New Orleans, on Monday, June 24, 2024, from 11:00AM to 1:00PM. A Celebration of Life will follow at 1:00PM in the chapel.
