Gladdis Clay Brisco Jr., at the age of 72, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 22, 2025. He heard Jesus say, “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. You have fought a good fight, you have finished the race, you have kept the faith.”
Gladdis, affectionately known as “Bubba,” was born on September 27, 1952, to Gladdis Clay Brisco Sr. and Margaret Jean Brisco in Jackson, Mississippi. He received the sacraments of baptism and first communion from St. Teresa of the Little Flower Catholic Church in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he later served as an altar boy.
Gladdis was educated in the New Orleans public school system, attending Paul L. Dunbar Elementary, P.G.T. Beauregard Middle School, and Warren Easton High School, where he graduated with the class of 1970. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the aircraft carrier USS Midway.
After returning to New Orleans, Gladdis attended the University of New Orleans, where he met and married Betty Pierson. From their union, two sons were born: Quay Angelico Brisco and Keanon Clay Brisco. Gladdis also attended Delgado Community College, where he received a certification in sheet metal working. He later became employed by the United States Postal Service, where he worked for 34 years before retiring.
After retiring, Gladdis focused his time and attention on caring for his "beloved," his "guiding light," his mother, Margaret.
Gladdis was a child of God, and he walked in the purpose that God had set for him. He enriched the lives of all who knew him and sowed seeds of encouragement and knowledge to all who sought his counsel. He was a community activist, a carpenter, and a gardener. He was the true embodiment of his favorite phrase, “Somebody got to do it,” and so he did.
He will be missed by many, cherished by all, and remembered as a critical thinker, a compassionate soul, and a righteous man. He was a good and faithful servant to God.
Gladdis was preceded in death by his father, Gladdis C. Brisco Sr. He is survived by his mother, Margaret J. Brisco; his devoted sons, Quay A. Brisco and Keanon C. Brisco; his granddaughter, Kali L. Brisco; his partner, Brenda Harris; his siblings; and many other nieces, nephews, and family members, including Ozella B. Gill, Iman B. Gill, Leslie L. Brisco (Cynthia), Shana A. Brisco, Leslie L. Worm, Leland A. Brisco, Sandra D. Brisco, Alani G. Brisco, Andra Brisco Sr., Andra D. Brisco Jr. (Ashley), Christopher A. Brisco, Lori Brisco Lion, and Cameron G. Lion.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at St. Josephine Bakhita Catholic Church, 3501 N Miro Street in New Orleans, on Saturday, August 30, 2025. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a Memorial Mass following at 10:00 a.m. Gladdis will be laid to rest at Mt. Olivet Cemetery at 12 p.m.
