Glenn Carl Fonte passed away on December 10, 2021, at the age of 64. He is the son of Dominic Anthony Fonte [Deceased] and Rosemary Legendre Fonte. He is the brother of Kenneth Fonte (Colleen), Marie Fonte Poche, Michael Fonte (Loretta), and Michele Fonte Ural (Mickey) [Deceased]. Glenn is the uncle of several nieces, nephews and grandnieces. Glenn was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 19, 1957. Glenn graduated in 1975 from East Jefferson High School, Metairie, La., and he attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette, La.
As a manager of Oz for more than two decades, Glenn played a key role in providing countless thousands of patrons with an energizing entertainment experience at New Orleans’ premier dance club to celebrate with others the joys of life. Glenn’s tireless dedication to the success of Oz, and his commitment to the pleasure of its customers, helped Oz gain and maintain a nationwide reputation as a “must do” Bourbon Street gathering place. Through his work, Glenn contributed to the happiness of all Oz customers – even those who did not know him or meet him.
Glenn was kind. He was a compassionate mentor and counselor to the employees of Oz who sought his advice or comfort. Many considered Glenn to be the soul of Oz. Glenn showed his appreciation for Oz’s employees by cooking and serving meals to them during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. He also shared those holiday meals with the homeless. Glenn was charitable. He regularly hosted fund-raisers at Oz to support food banks and other non-profit causes. Also, during the pandemic Glenn volunteered to distribute food to the needy at a local food bank.
Glenn cherished the opportunities that Oz provided him to please and help others, and he ended his career there only when government restrictions associated with the pandemic forced Oz to close for an extended period of time.
Glenn was a good and loving son, brother and uncle. He enjoyed cooking and baking for his family, and Glenn’s delicious meatballs, gumbo, and cakes showcased his culinary talent. Glenn helped his family without hesitation whenever called upon for assistance. He was especially close to his baby sister Michele, and he was always there for her.
Glenn will be sadly missed by his family and friends, but he will live on in their memories of him.
Glenn’s visitation and funeral services will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124.
