

Glenn Michael Illg passed away at his Marrero home on the morning of Sunday, January 4, 2026, at the age of 78. He was born in New Orleans on September 11, 1947. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Armed Forces until 1973. After earning his associate’s degree, he went on to enjoy a long career with Entergy. After his retirement, he had more time to enjoy doing the things he loved like golfing, taking meticulous care of his lawn, performing as Bubbles the Clown and spending time with his two daughters. In his free time, he gave back to his community with his participation and volunteering with the Shriners, Masonic Temple, and St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Cherry Horton Illg; parents, Ferdinand Illg and Rosemary Cacamo Illg; brother, John Robert Illg, Sr.; mother-in-law, Betty Rizzuto; and best friend, John Agnelly.
Glenn is survived by his two daughters, Leslie Illg Forestier (Chad) and Julie Illg Childress (Gary); grandchildren, Paige Nicole Simonson (Gilbert) and Cayden Douglas Childress; great grandchildren, Gilbert John III, Emersyn Sue and another due in April 2026; brother, Richard Illg; sister-in-law, Carla Laiche (David); and nieces and nephews, John Robert Illg, Jr., Brian Christian Illg, Mary Deborah Boudreaux, Erin Elizabeth Graham, Jodi Elizabeth Illg , Amanda Moss and Nicole DeSoto; and numerous other relatives and dear friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, on Thursday, January 15, 2026. Visitation will begin at 12 PM with a Christian Memorial Service following in the chapel at 2 PM. Glenn and Cherry will be laid to rest in Metairie Cemetery immediately after the chapel services have concluded.
