Gloria Carey

Gloria Ricks Carey a life-long resident of Metairie passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018 at her home in Metairie at age 95. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years William M. Carey Jr. and her parents Charles Ricks Sr. and Rose Tranchina Ricks and her sister Virginia Nick. Gloria will be remembered by her three sons William and Mark of Metairie and Kevin (wife Denise) of Houston. She is survived by her sister Charlotte Valatkavage and her brother Charles Ricks both of Metairie. Gloria was also survived by her 5 grandchildren: Jessica Carey, Tara Yochim, Alexia Carey, Tyler Carey and Adair Carey and three great grandchildren. Gloria graduated from Metairie High School and Soule College. She worked as a secretary during WWII at Jackson Barracks, and following her marriage to Willam, as a homemaker. She was an officer and member of the Metairie Knoll Garden Club. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, October 31, at 11 o’clock at Lake Lawn Funeral Home chapel with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. In Lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations to the National WWII Museum, New Orleans.
