Beloved wife of the late William Daniel Weidner, Jr. Devoted mother of Gayle Weidner Ehrensing (Lucas), Joan Weidner Long (Stewart), William Daniel Weidner III (Janis), David Eric Weidner (Kathryn) and the late Susan Weidner Sileo (Jack). Also survived by 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Sister of the late Marion Hoâ LeBlanc, Jr., Clyde Hoâ LeBlanc (Joanne, deceased) and the late Joan Hoâ LeBlanc Travirca (Chester, deceased).
Mémère Gloria, as she was fondly known by her grandchildren, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother whose family was her highest priority and greatest source of pride.
First of four children, Gloria was born on March 13, 1921, to Fabiola Pilié and Marion Hoâ LeBlanc. She attended St. Leo the Great Grammar School and St. Mary’s Dominican High School where she graduated as the Salutatorian. She was awarded a scholarship to Dominican College. Gloria and Billy were married in San Diego just weeks before Billy deployed with the Marines for World War II. She and Billy spent 73 wonderful years together. They enjoyed all the things that make life special: a happy marriage, raising five children, enjoying their grandchildren and always bearing witness to their great faith in the Lord.
Gloria was a Child of Mary and a longtime parishioner of Mater Dolorosa Church.
Gloria was a ninth generation New Orleanian who was proud of her city’s history. For many years, she was an active member of Louisiana Colonials, U.S. Daughters of 1812 and Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was descended from several old Creole families from France and Spain that were prominent in Colonial and antebellum Louisiana. Her lineage can be traced to Louis de la Ronde, a young naval officer, who sailed with Bienville on his 1699 voyage up the mouth of the Mississippi River.
Our family would like to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Sara Fernandez and her caregivers: Janet Albanese, Alice Compton, Monica Gardner, Yolanda Gibson, Nicolle Henry and Dorothy Lee for their devoted help in caring for our mother.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 1230 S. Carrollton Avenue, on Tuesday, July 31st. Visitation at 10am, Mass at 11am.
Donations in her name can be made to:
