Goldie was born September 2, 1929 in Mobile, Al, but lived in New Orleans for the past 89 years. She graduated from St. Mary’s Dominican High School and was a true Dominican Deb. After high school, she went to business school and worked for Delta Airlines before marrying Pal Moran Jr. in 1956. After raising her 10 children, she worked in the French Market where loved helping the tourist and local customers. She always enjoyed the local flavor of New Orleans and its characters.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Pal Moran Jr.; her mother, Goldie Guilbeau Gottschalk; her father, Joseph Cattan; and her sister and soulmate, Shirley Cattan McDonnell. She is survived by her children, Bryant Moran, Robert Moran, Denise Celona (Nick), Kevin Moran, Timothy Moran, Pal Moran III, Jennifer Sillars, Leslie Barron (Gerald), Erin Oster, and Russell Moran (Rebecca). She has 13 grandchildren, 4 great grand-children with one on the way, several nieces and nephews, and 3 half-brothers. Goldie’s main passion in life was her 10 children who were her main focus. Her house was always full of kids including the friends of her children. It seems that at one point or another every child in Pines Village in New Orleans East came through her house. The Moran household always held excitement and adventure. Goldie loved to be out and about shopping with her sister Shirley until she lost her sight to Retinitis Pigmentosa. The two ladies giggled like little girls when they were together and we all looked forward to watching these two in action. Not only did they delight us, but everyone that came in contact with these beauties. Goldie also loved to dine out and we knew when we heard her say “Deeeelicious” that she had enjoyed her meal. Although she will be terribly missed here on earth, we are comforted in the knowledge that she has more than earned her place in heaven and is now at peace with our Lord, Jesus.
