Gregory James Manion, 65, passed from this life due to an acute medical condition on Tuesday, June 1, 2021. A lifelong New Orleans resident, he attended De La Salle High School and then Tulane University, graduating with a BA in History and subsequent MBA studies. He achieved real estate licensure and certification as a residential mortgage representative for several lenders where he specialized in reverse mortgages.
Greg is preceded in death by his parents, Francis E. and Mary Elizabeth Kernan Manion, and his brother, Francis ‘Chip’ Manion. He is survived by his sister, Beth Manion Williamson (Dallas, Texas), his brother, Dr. Kernan Manion (Gloucester, Massachusetts), his sister-in-law, Lynn Manion (Metairie, Louisiana), and four nieces and nephews, Mimi Bullen, Jay Feinhals, Chris Feinhals, and Gretchen Brown.
Greg was actively affiliated with Kappa Alpha fraternity and diverse civic organizations including the Alliance for Good Government. Immediately post-Katrina, he worked for Catholic Charities as a financial officer in their Road Home program.
A devout Catholic who found great comfort in the church, he became a member of the Knights of Columbus at Mater Dolorosa. He was an eager volunteer for numerous local political campaigns and was as avid a political junkie as he was a Green Wave and Saints football fan. If ever there was a New Orleans cultural and food ambassador, it was Greg. He truly loved being part of a group cause, relishing both the camaraderie and seeing others’ lives helped. His thoughtfulness and support have touched many.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church on 1230 S. Carrollton Ave. in New Orleans, on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 11:00AM. A visitation will be held at the church beginning at 9:00AM. A reception will immediately follow the Mass in the adjacent parish hall. Interment will follow the reception in Metairie Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Greg's memory to Catholic Charities, www.ccano.org and / or Café Reconcile, www.cafereconcile.org.
