Hagop Meguerditchian

Hagop “Jack” Meguerditchian, age 63, of Destrehan, lost his courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on Friday, October 28, surrounded by his loved ones. Jack was born in Beirut, Lebanon to Meguerditch and Hosanna on May 28, 1953. He married Grace Avedikian on December 11, 1976 in Los Angeles, California. In 1977, Jack and Grace relocated to New Orleans where he began working as an auto mechanic and laying the foundation for his family to live the American dream. Then in 1986, Jack opened Dynasty Watches and Jewelry at Lakeside Shopping Center in Metairie and from that point forward was affectionately known as the watchman. Over the years, he served thousands of customers, many of whom became very dear friends. Put simply, his little pink kiosk created a sense of community and camaraderie in the middle of the shopping mall. In 2013, Dynasty merged with The Engraving Company, a legacy that will now be carried on by his son, Ara Mike Meguerditchian. He is preceded in death by his mother, father and brother-in-law Edward M. Avedikian. He is survived by his wife Grace Meguerditchian; his son Ara Mike Meguerditchian and his wife Natalie; his daughter Tamar Meguerditchian Gregorian and her husband Andrew; his sisters Betty Avedikian, Hermine Sevgian and Seta Balian; his brother Sarkis Meguerditchian; his grandchildren Michael Ara Meguerditchian and Sophia Marie Meguerditchian; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as beloved friends and customers. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Garabed Armenian Church in honor of Hagop “Jack” Meguerditchian to commemorate his love of God, family and the Armenian community. Visitation will be on Friday, November 4 from 5 – 8 pm at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard, Metairie, Louisiana 70124. A memorial service will be held at 7pm. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, November 5 at St. Garabed Armenian Church of Louisiana, 6208 Florida Boulevard in Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70806 with Rev. Fr. Tateos Abdalian.
