Helen Pumila Zara

Heaven gained the sweetest angel, Helen Pumila Zara, age 87, on Monday, February 9, 2015. She was born in New Orleans, La. to the late Albert Pumila and Marie Cascio Pumila on January 24, 1928. Loving wife to the late Cyril J. Zara, Sr. for 64 years and a wonderful mother to 6 Children, Cynthia Zara Maltese, Cyril J. Zara, Jr., Carolyn Zara-Morvant, Joseph, Albert and Keith Zara. She is survived by 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by 2 grandsons. Beloved sister to Rosemary Forman, Margaret Leggio, Josephine Gaulon, Lorraine Pumila and the late Gaspar Pumila, Mary Pumila, Joseph Pumila, and Camille Mailhes. The family give thanks to Cheryl Gordon and Devena Marsh for their dedicated care giving and support throughout her illness. Helen was a devoted mother throughout her lifetime always caring unconditionally for her children and anyone in need. She will be fondly remembered as a loving, caring, self sacrificing mother and wife and someone that would always be there for you . She will be greatly missed by all that were touched by her love, kindness, and compassion.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home Chapel, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 3pm. Visitation will be held on Saturday 1pm-3pm until service time. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
