Henry Duplessis Ogden IV

Henry Duplessis Ogden, IV died Thursday, October 24, 2024, in Covington at the age of 79. Henry, known as “Chip” to family and close friends, was born on May 21, 1945 to Henry Duplessis Ogden III, M.D. and Miriam Walmsley Loker Ogden. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Diana Hayden Ogden, as well as his parents, his step-father James Monteith, his sisters Miriam Walmsley Ogden, Lucille Walmsley Ogden, his brother Peter Voohries Ogden, niece Caroline Allison Ogden, brother-in-law Lionel “Poochie” delaHoussaye, sister-in-law Virginia Rix Cole and in-laws John Okie and Mary Lou Hayden, Jeanne Collisson and Anthony Winser.

Henry is survived by his three daughters Jeanne Ogden Cradic (Robert), Anne Ogden Masten (Corey), and Elizabeth Ogden Janke (Benjamin). He was blessed with nine grandchildren Kathryn Elizabeth Cradic, Henry Duplessis Ogden Janke, Caroline Emily Cradic, Claire Kittredge Cradic, Madeline Ogden Masten, Diana Margaret Cradic, Hayden West Janke, Mathilde Ogden Masten, and Jack Winser Humphries Janke. Henry is also survived by his sister Marie Louise “Zizi” delaHoussaye, brother Charles Barry Ogden (Jane), brother-in-law John Brognard Hayden (Jackie), goddaughter Courtney Cottrell, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was blessed to have many friends and loved to play cards.

Raised in uptown New Orleans, Henry attended Holy Name of Jesus, Alcée Fortier and St. Stanislaus for school. He graduated high school from Garden District Academy, where he also met and fell in love with a redhead named Diana Hayden, whom he would later marry. After a brief stint at USL in Lafayette, he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1966. He graduated from Loyola University. Henry had a successful career as a commercial real estate broker, starting out with Latter and Blum before launching his own firms of Henry Ogden & Co., and later Great Southern Properties. Henry was a member of several Carnival Organizations, the Metairie Country Club, the Bienville Club, and the Essex Club, where he served as its President. He was a member of The General Society of Colonial Wars and The Society of the War of 1812. Henry was a hereditary member of The Society of the Cincinnati in the State of New Jersey, an organization of which he was particularly proud of and active in during his younger years.

The family wishes to thank Tina Weber for her kindness and companionship for Henry, enhancing his quality of life in his final years. Also to Eunice Benson from Palliative Care and Zane Kirby, PA from the VA hospital for their never-ending support, and to Linda Manning, Amelia Conerly, and Krystal Williams for their compassion in the final months of Henry’s life.

Henry had a wonderful life and his last wish was for his life to be celebrated and not mourned. Friends and family are invited on Friday, November 8 at Lakelawn Funeral Home. Visitation begins at 12 noon and service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Henry’s memory to the charity of your choice.
