Herbert Frederick Steckler, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, after a long battle with polycystic kidney disease, passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at the age of 84. Devoted husband of 40 years to the late Esther Randazzo Steckler. Loving father of Terry Steckler Sita and Penny Steckler DeLatte. Father-in-law of David John Sita and Dale Patrick DeLatte. Proud grandfather of Brandon David Sita (Emily), Heather Marie Johnson (Daniel), Jessica Sita Couch (Nick), Wendy Michelle DeLatte, Greg Patrick DeLatte. Great grandfather of Isabella Layne Johnson, Brady David Sita, Livvy Rose Johnson, and Laney Lynn Sita. Beloved husband to Jackie Nunez. Loving Stepfather to Robert Ernest Berard, Jr. (Dawn), Richard Eric Berard (Susan), Randall Edward Berard (Keli), Lisa Cherie Berard Brown. Proud Step Grandfather to Mandi Cherie Berard Ekinia (Gregg), Evan Stephen St. Germain, Madison Diann Berard, Ridge Edward Berard, Justin Michael Montz, Landon Robert Brown, Fallon Chérie Brown, Farrah Laùren Brown. Step great grandfather to Gregg Joseph Ekinia, Jr., Brenten Michael Ekinia, Blaze Xavier Ekinia. Son of the late Herbert Frederick Steckler, Sr. and Irma Powers Steckler. Brother of the late Althea Steckler Melan (Walter). Herbert was born on July 8, 1931 in New Orleans, La and was a longtime resident of Jefferson Parish. Herbert served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1953-1955. He retired from Whitney National Bank after 45 years of service. He was an avid bowler, golfer, fisherman, and Saints fan and loved his poodle, Missy. He will be forever remembered and deeply missed by his loved ones and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation to be held at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124 on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will begin at 1:00 PM. Interment following at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
