

Jacqulin “Jackie” Theresa Grant Hamer passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 13, 2021. Jacqulin was born on August 16, 1938, at home in New Orleans. She was preceded in death by her father, James Douglas Grant III, who died in World War II, Her mother, Mildred Mary Murry and her adoptive father William James “Bill” Windmann. Her Catholic faith was so strong that she contemplated becoming a nun. She attended high school, and her first year of college at the School Sisters of Notre Dame Mother House in St Louis and was a postulant until her life’s dreams took her in another direction. She received a B.A. from Domincan College in 1975 and a M.A. in Education from Loyola in 1983. Jacqulin was an Elementary school teacher, who taught at St Gabriel, St Alphonsus, Our Lady of Good Council, St Clement of Rome, Catherine Strehle, and Hazel Park Elementary School in the New Orleans Area. She was both a girl scout leader and a boy scout leader. She was also happy to take her 5th grade class on their annual trip to Washington and New York for many years. Jacqulin and her husband, Collin Bradfield Hamer Jr., met while they were both members of the Moisant Squadron, Civil Air Patrol. She was very excited to be marrying into a family where she would gain so many siblings. Jacqulin enjoyed travelling internationally (visited 32 countries), collecting salt and pepper shakers and pelicans, cooking and playing cards. She will be deeply missed by Collin, her husband of 57 years, her children, Jan Alexandra Hamer, Bruce William Gerard Hamer (Karay Tessier), Grant Douglas Hamer, and adopted Iranian daughter Shahnaz Sanjabi; her grandchildren, Jerrod Michael Songy (Danae Dolinsky), Rory Patrick Hamer (Jiyun Park), Blaise Meriodoc Pinero (Logan Pine), Rozarion Deneil Anders (Alesha Phillips), Connor Peregrin Pinero, Duncan Samwise Pinero (Olivia Roy), Kyle William Hamer (Cricket Giles), and Kory Collin Hamer; great grandchildren, Destinee Michelle Anders, Zaria Deneil Anders, Taelyn Amour Anders, Blaise Michael Pinero, Raiden Presley Pinero, Jayden Vontre Washington, Donald Ray Washington, and Ethan Isaiah Songy; extended family and friends, and the multitude of people she considered family and called her Mimi, and her little dog Maggie. Jacqulin had a happy, boisterous laugh that everyone loved, made friends everywhere with everyone, and always had a tootsie roll pop ready for children. Jacqulin is now at Peace and it’s time for her family to carry on with her giving, friendly ways. The family would like to thank Ochsner NSU staff and Cannon Hospice for the wonderful care that Jacqulin was lovingly, given. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 1pm. A visitation will begin at 11am until mass. Burial will follow in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations to your favorite charity, in Jackie's name, would be preferred.
