He proudly served his country as a sergeant in the 5th Battalion during the Korean War, where his courage earned him both a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart – a testament to his heroic sacrifice on the battlefield.
However, it was his love and devotion to his family that truly defined his life. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his children: Kim Pope (Gary Pope), Keith Forest (Lorna Forest), and Karen Dressel (Leon Dressel). His grandchildren, Garrett Pope, Gary Pope (Makenna Pope), Blake Forest, Logan Forest, Caroline Forest, Kristen Jernigan (Justin Jernigan), and Lauren Crout (John Crout), brought him endless pride and joy. His great-grandchildren, Alivia Pope, Jude Jernigan, Juliana Jernigan – along with two more on the way – will carry on his bright spirit for generations to come.
Though we’ll miss him dearly, we find comfort knowing he is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife Betty C. Forest, his son, James A. Forest Jr., and his 11 siblings. Jimmy lived a life full of love and laughter, and he will always be remembered for his quick wit and empathetic heart.
We invite relatives and friends to celebrate his life Friday, October 25th at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home at 12 pm, with visitation starting at 10 am.
