James Albert “Skeet” Quarles passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 to be with his Lord and Savior. He was 89 years of age. James was the beloved husband of Sarah Ceravola Quarles for 69 years.
Skeet was born on April 15, 1933 in Beauregard, MS and was reared in the Methodist faith. He is preceded in death by his parents John Albert “Bud” Quarles and Lucille Hales Quarles LeBouef along with his siblings: Darrine Q. Kramer, John Quarles, Billie Jean Q. Joachim and Elsie Q. Mathas. He is survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
At the young age of 16, Skeet enlisted in the United States Navy and traveled the world for several years. James was also a dedicated employee at his first and only job at the Illinois Central Railroad for almost 40 years before retiring. He had other interests including obtaining a pilot’s license, earning an electrical refrigeration license and raising horses, cattle and growing pumpkins in his later years. Skeet also loved listening to his “Old School” country music while sitting in his tree swing at their home near Greensburg, LA.
Skeet was a gentle soul. He and Sarah treasured making countless family memories.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., N.O., LA on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
