James Henry Stevens, Jr.

James, better known as Jimmy, was born in New Orleans, LA on May 3, 1939 to James (Harry) H. Stevens and Ruth Zengel Stevens. He graduated from De La Salle High School in 1957 and then joined the Coast Guard. He went on to work for and eventually take over the family business, Harry Stevens Corporation, that specialized in tires.

Jimmy was a long-time parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and volunteered at their food bank. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with family and was a member of the Jefferson Parish Rod and Gun Club. He was an elected official on the Jefferson Parish Republican Executive Committee and a proud member of the De La Salle Alumni Association. He was also an avid ballroom dancer, who participated and won awards in numerous contests. Most of all, Jimmy was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James (Harry) H. Stevens and Ruth Zengel Stevens, as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jimmy is survived by his children, James H. Stevens III, Kurt Paul Stevens (Diane), Daria Ann Stevens Rutledge (Russell), and Seven Stevens; grandchildren, Zoe Boswell, Noel Stevens, Eamon Rutledge, Hunter Stevens, April Stevens, Skye Stevens, Dylan Stevens, and Shendro Stevens; great-grandchildren, Lucy Boswell, Hannah Boswell, Jane Boswell, Isobel Boswell, Jayce Stevens, and Waylon Leal; his former wife and mother of his children, Mary Virginia Stevens Fabacher; as well as his special friend, Angel Werner.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend James Henry Stevens, Jr.’s services on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM until the Funeral Mass at 12:00 noon. Interment to follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum, 5454 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in his honor.
