James L. Ziegler, 69, of New Orleans, La., passed from this life to the next on February 11, 2024. He resided in Metairie, La., until he and his family relocated to Kennesaw, Ga., following Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Penny Marcella Young Ziegler, two sons, Arthur James Ziegler and Andrew Lawrence Ziegler, and a daughter, Lauren Marcella Ziegler. He is preceded in death by his parents, the late Clarence Sidney Ziegler and Phoebe Martin Ziegler, two older brothers, the late Samuel Hadley Ziegler and Clarence Robert Ziegler (Margaret). He is survived by three brothers, George Martin Ziegler (Nancy), Jonathan Ellis Ziegler (Brenda), and Ralph Stephen Ziegler (Kathy). He is survived by nine nephews, Allen, Mark, Rodney, Michael, Jeffrey, Joshua, Jeremy, Jonathan, and Brett, and four nieces, Connie, Debbie, Susan and Jennifer, and many great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
He is also preceded in death by the late Marcella Farrell Douglass, his mother-in-law. Throughout her life Jimmy was a devoted son-in-law and Marcella loved him as a son.
His lifelong friends that he was in touch with almost daily include Henry (Rusty) Ennis, Brian Giardina, Albert Gary, Roy and George Simon.
After supporting Penny through Nursing School, Jimmy attended Louisiana State University, graduating with a degree in Construction Management. He traveled back and forth to LSU three days a week from early morning to late at night on a motorcycle for two years: through hot weather or cold weather, through clear weather or stormy weather, or fog, he was determined. He was an avid LSU football fan: Geaux Tigers!!!.
After graduation, Jimmy worked for Katz and Bestoff Drug Stores and later Rite Aid Corporation installing shelving and remodeling buildings from Texas to Florida and Arkansas to Tennessee. He worked for Parsons Corporation as Regional Program Manager of the Southeast section of the US and the Caribbean managing construction on FAA projects. His last job before his passing was with Cobb County School District, SPLOST Division, overseeing and inspecting construction projects. Jimmy leaves behind many dear friends that he enjoyed working with during his tenure there. Penny and the Ziegler family continue to be recipients of their love and kindness.
Jimmy is remembered for his infectious personality. He is loved and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation and memorial service on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home in New Orleans. The visitation begins at 11:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m.
