Jane Babst Truett passed away on January 8, 2025, in Old Metairie. She was 85 years old. Jane was born on March 14, 1939, in New Orleans. She grew up on Jefferson Avenue and was the oldest of six children, sister and four younger brothers. Jane loved spending summers at the family home in Long Beach, Mississippi. She attended Ursuline Academy for twelve years, graduating as salutatorian of her class. She made lifelong friends at Ursuline which she cherished her entire life. She then attended Newcomb College and earned a degree in mathematics. During her time there, she served as president of her sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi. Jane later earned a Master of Business Administration in Finance from Tulane University. She was a Certified Public Accountant and had a distinguished career in the banking industry. Beyond her professional achievements, she was an accomplished piano player, seamstress, and avid gardener. She was a former member of the Orleans Club. Jane is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years, John Henry Truett (Jack), a loving partnership that defined much of her life; her parents, Lawrence F. Babst and Loretto Morvant Babst; her son, Robert Babst Truett; and her brothers, Lawrence F. Babst Jr. (Linda), and Gerard E. Babst (Cynthia). Jane is survived by her son John Henry Truett Jr. and daughter-in-law Melissa Ledyard Truett; her sister, Loretto Stephens; her brothers, Walter M. Babst (Bebe), James A. Babst (Cynthia); and her grandchildren: John Henry Truett, III (Amanda), Frances Truett Roney (Zachary), James Montgomery Truett, Austin Thomas Vollman, and Christian Avery Vollman; and great-grandchildren Grace Adelaide Truett, Emmaline Louise Truett, Frances Elizabeth Roney, and Mae Lucille Truett; and many nieces and nephews. Jane was known for her generosity towards family and friends. She found strength throughout her life in her Catholic faith. Her legacy of kindness, talent, and dedication will remain a cherished memory for all who knew her. Friends and family are invited to the visitation on Monday January 27, 2025 beginning at 11:00 am followed by a Memorial Mass at noon at The National Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor located at 2701 State St., New Orleans, LA 70118. Private interment at 10:00 am in Metairie Cemetery.
