Janet is survived by her loving husband, Michael M. Noonan; her children, Kerri Tedesco Caruso (Brian) and Philip Edwin Tedesco (Maureen McCarty) and former husband / father of her children, Kenneth Tedesco; five grandchildren, Aidan Caruso, Greta Tedesco, Julian Tedesco, Francis Tedesco, and Edie Tedesco; step-daughters, Margaret Grace Noonan and Claire Noonan Courtney (Marcus II); and brother, Paul Roux (Lynne). She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Iris Roux.
Janet was a lifelong educator with 50 years of teaching in high schools and colleges throughout New Orleans. She began her career at Holy Cross, where she was the first of seven women hired to teach. She later went to Jesuit High School, where she was the head of the Mathematics Department. She also was Assistant Principal at Rummel High School, and taught at Ursuline Academy and McGehee School. She also taught at University of New Orleans and Our Lady of Holy Cross College. She retired in 2017.
Janet received the Outstanding Louisiana Math Teacher Award from the Louisiana Association of Teachers of Mathematics. In 2005, she was selected as a STAR Teacher in the Mississippi Economic Council's Student - Teacher Achievement Recognition program. She served on the Board of Directors with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
Janet had a warm and gentle sense of humor, curious mind, and a gift for teaching. She leaves behind a legacy of thousands of students whose lives were touched by her high expectations and compassionate nature. She was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery) in New Orleans, on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 11:00AM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 9:00AM. Interment will be private.
