Born on November 19, 1945, in Baltimore, Maryland, Janice was the daughter of the late Norma Nathanson Posner and Lester Posner. She was a proud graduate of Franklin High School and earned her Associate of Arts degree from Villa Julie College (now Stevenson University). Janice was a New Orleans resident and an active member of Touro Synagogue for over 55 years. She was also a longtime supporter of Isidore Newman School, from which three generations of her family received diplomas.
Janice is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Peter Ferth Brandt; her loving sons, Peter Ferth Brandt, Jr. (Yvette) and David Marx Brandt (Christine); and her cherished grandson, Andrew Marx Brandt, who knew her fondly as “JiJi.” She is also survived by her sisters, Lana Posner of Camden, New Jersey, and Rona Posner of Hanover, Pennsylvania; her brother, David Brian Posner of Crofton, Maryland; niece Lindsey Peregoff Perry; and nephews Spencer Peregoff, Christopher Graff, and Michael Graff.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Linda Lee Posner Graff.
Janice had a deep appreciation for life’s adventures. A passionate traveler, she explored dozens of countries and faraway islands, collecting memories and stories along the way. Whether she was riding a camel in Rhodes, exploring the Grotta Azzurra, or cruising the Aegean Sea, she was never far from thrilling world expeditions. She had a great love for music, theater, and Broadway, and could often be found in the audience of a concert or play. Her spirit was as lively as her wit—especially evident during a fiercely competitive game of Mahjong, where she was a formidable opponent and a joyful presence.
She was deeply devoted to her family, and her greatest joy came from the time spent with them—especially with her grandson Andrew, who was the light of her life.
Janice will be remembered for her warmth, her laughter, her sense of adventure, and her unwavering love for those lucky enough to know her.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at 10:00AM at Hebrew Rest Cemetery #3 in New Orleans. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to a charity of your choice in Janice’s memory.
