She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on December 30, 1948 to Dr. Eugene Fortier Jr. and Elvira Nelson Fortier.
Jeanne fought to overcome cancer at a particularly young age, but as her life progressed she continued to face additional medical issues. She never complained or questioned her circumstances, rather famously she would always say “It is what it is” and would continue to overcome her challenges to live a long and lasting life. She was determined in all aspects of life, driving her to earn her bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from the University of New Orleans at the age of 67. She had a career at her alma mater as the advanced procurement coordinator and was planning to retire in January 2022. Jeanne was a devoted mother who lived every day for her children and granddaughters.
Jeanne is survived by her son, Lionel E. Augustin III, daughter, Michelle A. Raymond (Keith); sisters, Cleta Plaisance (Dr. Nicholas) and Renée Bujol (Stephen); brother, John Fortier (Susan); grandchildren, Emma Raymond, Avery Raymond, and Amelia Raymond; former spouse, Lionel Augustin Jr.; nieces and nephews, André Plaisance (Lori), Cleta Toepfer (Randall), Angelique Plaisance, Nicole Bujol, Jeannine Barth, Jean-Paul Bujol, Katherine LeDoux (Jason), Emily Fortier, Eugene Fortier, and Erin Fortier; and great nieces and nephews, Nicholas Barth, Clara Toepfer, Josephine Toepfer, Lillian Plaisance, and Madalyn LeDoux.
