Jennie Catanese Schellhaas passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026 after a long and happy life. She was 98. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Jennie was a resident of Metairie for over 60 years. Upon graduating from John McDonogh Girls' High School, she attended Joseph A. Maybin School for Graduates and received a General Clerical Certificate.

True to her Italian heritage, Jennie’s spaghetti and meatball dinners on Sundays and elaborate holiday festivities were her signature.
She was a devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of St. Angela Merici Church. Her faith was paramount.
Jennie was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William Lionel Schellhaas, Jr.; and parents, Anthony J. Catanese and Mary Moschitta Catanese. She is survived by her children, Cynthia S. Oliver (Glenn), Jerry T. Schellhaas (Pamela) and Terry G. Schellhaas (Janet); sister, Diane C. Pizzo; grandchildren, Scott Oliver, Ashley Oliver, Amy McClellan (Matthew), Mark Schellhaas (June), Donald Schellhaas, and Matthew Schellhaas (Alexa); step granddaughter, Alexandria McKee (Blake); 10 great grandchildren; and four step great grandchildren. Jennie will be sadly missed and will remain in her family’s hearts forever.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Lacey, Pepper, Heather, and the staff of Compassus Hospice.
