Joan M. Brown a catholic lady of great faith, died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, peacefully in her home surrounded by family. She was 81 years old. The daughter of the late John G. Miller, Sr. and Dorothy Miller. Wife of the late Richard Joseph Brown, Sr. Sister of the late Diane “Sissy” Autin and John G. Miller, Jr. “Bubby”. Mother of Kim Brown, Richard Brown, and Kenny Brown; grandmother of Austin, Erica, Isyss, Charlee, Corbin; great grandmother of Payton, Layne, Ava, Carson, and Louis. She is also survived by many cousins.
Joan was a lifelong New Orleanian who graduated from McDonough 35. She was married to her husband while he was enlisted in the military. Joan was a homemaker, typist, and devoted wife. At one point in her career, she could type 80 to 100 words per minute accurately. Ms. Joan really loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren, especially during the holidays. She decorated and looked forward to Halloween (her son, Kenny’s birthday) and Christmas most. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Dominic. She volunteered her time at St. Dominic when her children attended there. She was only a call away to all of her friends and family. She would wait until her loved ones arrived home safely, and then she would go to sleep. She loved and supported her children and grandchildren at birthday parties and social events like baseball games. She was there with her walker. She cherished all the memories, including dance recitals and family functions.
Our heartfelt thanks to Annie, John, Rhett, Rachel, Tameka, St. Joseph’s Hospice for the love, prayers, respect and dignity of Joan’s life for her final days.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home beginning at 10:00am followed by a funeral service at 11:00am. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park and Mausoleum.
