

Johanes “John” Kuyt, 85, passed away on January 29, 2016. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and resided there until relocating to Baton Rouge after Hurricane Katrina. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth “Beth”; his parents, Peter C. Kuyt, Sr. and Wylora B. Kuyt; his brother, Peter C. Kuyt, Jr. (Thais) and his sister, Anna K. Benanti (Philip); as well as their adored dogs, Sporty I and Sporty II. He is survived by two nieces, Lisa Caputo and Jan Benanti (Dennis Carriere); two nephews, Bruce “Edward” Horn, Jr. (Donald Roth) and Scott Horn. He is also survived by grand-nieces and grand-nephews. John is also missed by his four-legged companions, Dominic, Luigi, Romeo, Moonpie, Sabine and Elena. John served in the Navy aboard the USS Boxer where he participated in the Japanese occupation and the Korean conflict. After his discharge from the Navy, he joined the Whitney Bank where he spent his entire professional career until his retirement. John and Beth were very active in the New Orleans culture, volunteering and enjoying many of the local festivals. Despite having to move to Baton Rouge after Katina, John was always a New Orleanian at heart. The immediate family would like to thank family and friends for their love and support. In addition, thanks are extended to Dr. Harold Clausen, Dr. Bunnie Hill, Virginia Barden, the nurses of Feliciana Home Health (Stacey and Stephanie) and all of the care-givers at Advanced Wound Care Clinic of Baton Rouge. A special thanks is given to Emer Turner and all her ladies at Quality Care Private Sitter Service. Regina, Dianne, Mildred, Janice, Thelma and other wonderful and patient women providing loving care for John for a number of years. Visitation will be a Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124 on Saturday, March 19, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a Catholic Mass of Christian Burial at the Lake Lawn Chapel immediately following the visitation.
