He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Theresa Piacitelli Cardarella, and his sister, Dorothy “Dot” Silbernagel.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Linda Holliday Cardarella; his two daughters, Jennifer Cardarella Sclafani (Frank) and Tracy Cardarella Crump (Chris); his four grandchildren, Angelina Sclafani, Frank John Sclafani, Sarah Crump Wilt (Brock), and Layton Crump. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law.
John was born in New Orleans on July 26, 1942, and was a graduate of Holy Cross High School. In 1961, he enlisted with the U. S. Navy, where he proudly served his country for four years. After his time with the Navy concluded, he continued his education at UNO, where he earned his bachelor’s degree.
John’s career as an electrical engineer with LP&L / Entergy spanned over 50 years. His passions were fishing and dancing, but most of all, he cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was also a great storyteller.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 1:00PM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 12:00PM. The interment will follow the Mass in Metairie Cemetery.
