

John Franklin Duncan, Jr. passed away on June 4, 2026, at the age of 86. He was born on December 9, 1939, in New Orleans, Louisiana. John was preceded in death by his parents, Gilda Marquer and John F. Duncan Sr., and his sons Gregory Lloyd Duncan and Kerwin Duncan. He survived by his beloved wife, Sylvia Duncan, his daughter, Stacy Cook, and his grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Cody Cook.
John graduated from St. Aloysius High School before serving in the US Navy. He was a fireman for 26 years, between 1964-1990, even serving as the Captain of Orleans Parish. He also worked as a Real Estate Broker.
In his free time, John’s life was enriched by many hobbies, including fishing, dining at restaurants, cooking, reading, going on vacations, and spending time with his family. He was a long-time member of the New Orleans Athletic Club.
The family would like to give special thanks to Pontchartrain Health Care Center and all the nurses that were truly like family to John.
Family and friends are invited to attend John’s Memorial Service on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., and the service will start at 12 p.m. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Park Cemetery.
