John J. Mello

John Joseph Mello passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2015, in his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 64. Beloved husband of Dollye Harrison Mello. Loving father of Katie Mello Winemiller and Emily Mello Whitfield. Proud Grandfather of Megan Winemiller, Molly Winemiller and Harrison Whitfield. Father-in-law to John Winemiller and Brian Whitfield. Brother of Henry Mello. Brother-in-law of Ann Mello and Andrew J. Harrison, Jr.

John was a native of New Orleans and has been a resident of Kenner for over 40 years. He graduated high school from Holy Cross, received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Tulane University, and his Masters in Business from Loyola University New Orleans. John was a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Louisiana. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers for over 40 years.

John started his career at J.L. Rumold Inc. as a Mechanical Engineer and during his time at Rumold Inc. was promoted to a role of Vice President working on various large construction projects in the New Orleans area. John spent over 25 years, employed by Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (formally W.H. Linder) as a Senior Mechanical/Regulatory Engineer. In this role, he worked on Shell Oil Deepwater projects since 1990.

Relatives, Friends and Associates are invited to honor this great man and attend the Mass of Christian Burial at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd (in Metairie Cemetery) on Monday, October 26, 2015 at 2PM. Visitation will be from 11am until the service time. Interment will be in Metairie.
