John Sylvester Morvant Jr. passed peacefully away on Saturday, November 10, 2018. He was born in New Orleans on December 3, 1923. Survivors include his wife, Sholeh Miri Morvant, three sons: Dale Morvant (Debbie), Drew Morvant, John Morvant III and a daughter Monique Suffern (Patrick); eight grandchildren, Mallary, Erin, Matthew, Max, Jake and John Morvant IV, Beverly and Hannah Suffern. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Patricia Morvant Junius.
He graduated from St. Aloysius High School in New Orleans and LSU in Baton Rouge earning a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a veteran of the US Navy. He was a sailing enthusiast and an active member of the Southern Yacht Club. He enjoyed thoroughbred horseracing and achieved some success as an owner. He loved traveling in Europe and in later year’s cruises. Our family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the hospice staff of Chateau de Notre Dame for their care and support and to Adam Anderson for his many years of loving care.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until time of Mass. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Children’s Hospital of New Orleans.
