Jorge Luis Diaz, 48, died Thursday, October 23, 2014 of a heart attack. Jorgie, as he was affectionately known, was born in Havana, Cuba and came to New Orleans in August of 1967. He is the son of Claro Felipe Diaz and Felicidad del Carmen Brieba. He is survived by his mother, Felicidad del Carmen, his brother, Claro and his wife, Nellie of Germantown, TN; his nephews, Tony (and his wife Delena) and Ryan; his niece, Gabrielle; and his two beloved dachshunds, Junior and Daisy. He is preceded in death by his father, Claro Felipe Diaz. Jorge attended St. Anthony Elementary School as well as Jesuit High School, where he graduated in 1984. He owned J.D. Painting that serviced the New Orleans area. Jorge resided in Metairie for the last 20 years. Jorgie was known for lighting up any room he entered with his wonderful smile or his boisterous laugh and lived his life without fear till the very end. In lieu of flowers, family requests that contributions be made to the American Heart Association or St. Jude Hospital in Memphis.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery) on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM.
