José-Tomás Aguilar Ramirez passed on to the House of the Heavenly Father on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Thibodaux Regional Health System in Louisiana. He passed at age 45 after a courageous 6-month-long journey with cancer.
José-Tomás is survived by his wife, Saskya Lainez, and their two daughters, Paloma-Maria Aguilar and Raf-ela Maria Aguilar.
Jose-Tomas was born on September 23, 1976 in Durango, Mexico to Felipe Aguilar and Florencia Ramirez. He has two brothers and three sisters. He lived in Dallas, TX several years before he moved to Metairie, Louisiana in 2015. He received a degree in Philosophical Theology and was an ESL/Spanish teacher.
José-Tomás had an encounter with Christ in the Catholic Church through the Neocatechumenal Way, while living in Dallas, TX. It was this encounter that transformed his life to an experience of joy and fulfillment in knowing and experiencing that God is faithful and makes no mistakes. It was here that he saw God acting and redeeming him, giving him a new life as a son of God. It was here that he experienced the nature of God -- which is love -- in the midst of family difficulties, the daily struggles and joys of marriage and fatherhood, and ultimately in sickness. It was here that he saw, through faith, cancer as an event through which God was speaking with him and his family. It was here that he experienced, through faith, that God was closest to him in his daily sufferings, though the world would say the contrary.
José-Tomás passed with the certainty that "everything cooperates for those who love God" -- yes, even sickness, because José-Tomás loved God until the end. Today he makes the words of St. Paul his own: "I have fought the good fight to the end; I have run the race to the finish; I have kept the faith; all there is to come for me now is the crown of uprightness which the Lord, the upright judge, will give to me on this Day."
Vigil will be held overnight on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at Blessed Francis Seelos Parish, 3037 Dauphine St, New Orleans, LA 70117 beginning at 7:00 p.m. Services will continue on Friday, March 25, 2022 at Blessed Francis Seelos Parish with mass beginning at 7:00AM.
