Joseph Leonidas Dalton, III

Joseph Leonidas Dalton, III, passed away on January 31, 2021 at the age of 87. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana on October 10, 1933, he was the oldest child of Joseph and Jane Dalton. Joe grew up in New Orleans and spent the years during World War II living on the family farm in Loranger, LA. After graduating from Alcee Fortier High School, Joe attended Tulane University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and a master’s degree in Business Administration.

During his time at Tulane, he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity where he made some of his lifelong friends. He met the love of his life, Beverly, on a blind date and they married shortly after his graduation from college. It was then that they began their lifelong partnership in raising a family while having many adventures along the way.

Joe’s career took him from coast to coast crafting his skills as an engineer and manager of manufacturing plants of all types, ultimately leading him to West Texas during the 1980’s oil boom. Joe and Beverly decided to start their own company in the mid 80’s and built Cardinal Industries into a successful business. After 30 years in the Permian Basin, they sold the business and retired back to Louisiana in 2012.

Joe and Beverly spent 63 years together before his passing. Their marriage brought them two daughters, Carey, and Judy. He loved them fiercely and took great pride in their accomplishments. He loved his grandchildren with all his heart. Some of his favorite times were spent with his family every summer on the Florida Gulf Coast.

Joe loved spending time in nature, birdwatching, picnicking, and watching his beloved Red Sox through thick and thin. He had an uncanny ability for total recall of events, persons, places, and all matters of trivia. He could create a pun at the drop of a hat. He will be remembered for his honesty, kindness and sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Leonidas Dalton, Jr. and Jane Mae Hanisee Dalton. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Sanderfer Dalton; daughters, Carey Dalton Ebert (David) and Judith Dalton Acomb (Ryan); grandchildren, Taylor Ebert Martin (Joe), Paige Ebert Lawson (Tyler), Catherine Acomb, Elizabeth Acomb Crosby (Billy), Joseph Ryan Acomb, and Mary Acomb. He is also survived by his sister, June Dalton Bennett and her children David Bennett and Julie Bennett Monsey.
