Joseph “Joey” A. Hoffmann, Jr. passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024. With typical humor he claimed being a life-long Saints fan was inevitable because he was born in New Orleans during their inaugural season, on Sunday, October 22,1967, while his father watched the team play. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in finance from Louisiana State University and a Juris Doctor from Loyola University, he worked as an attorney with the National Labor Relations Board for almost 25 years. Joey loved to research and plan trips around food quests. This culinary curiosity led him to join local groups Dinner Lab and Third Thursday Supper Club. It became a hobby to discover, shop for and prepare exotic dishes from around the globe, and to present themed meals with flair. A fierce intellect, he enjoyed reading about history and dominated at trivia, whether playing with the River Rats Trivia Team or at venues around town. From an early age he pursued his talent for art, and he shared his paintings with family and friends. Years spent playing trumpet in Archbishop Rummel’s High School Band and the LSU Marching Band turned him into a passionate music lover as well.
Joey is survived by his father, Joseph A. Hoffmann, Sr.; mother, Fern Serigne Hoffmann; sister, Kimberly Hoffmann Eddings; and nieces, Blake Isabella Eddings and Anna Sophia Eddings. He also leaves behind his long-time partner, Michele Bray, who was by his side every day during his brief illness. The family would like to give special thanks to the nursing staff at East Jefferson General Hospital and Ochsner Medical Center for making Joey comfortable in his final days.
Services will be at Lake Lawn Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 26th. Visitation starts at 10am, and the funeral service begins at 12pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project or Second Harvest Food Bank, two causes close to Joey’s heart.
